Music Films - Silverchair: Diorama; Crowded House: Woodface; and Hip Hop Doc Words From the City
For the second year, Pacific Cinémathèque is very pleased to join with Tourism Australia, the Australian High Commission, and the Australian Consulate to present Australia.com OzFlix: Australian Film Weekend in Vancouver.
This special three-day celebration showcases some of 'Down Under's' very best new features, documentaries and shorts. All are Vancouver Premieres at the Pacific Cinémathèque,
1181 Howe Street.
This is the first Vancouver presentation of Australia.com OzFlix: Australian Film Weekend held in conjunction with G’Day Vancouver: Australia Week 2008, an event that will allow Canadians to sample unique experiences from Australia including food and wine, culture, film and nature.
New at the Festival this year are three of the most hotly anticipated behind the scenes music films: Larry Meltzer’s Silverchair: Diorama and Crowded House: Woodface gives audiences a rare look at the making of two of the most popular albums in Aussie music history; and Words From the City, a documentary exploring the Australian hip hop scene through some of the nation’s most exciting artists, such as the Hilltop Hoods, Downsyde, and Koolism.
Other highlights include: Winner of the Audience Award at Sydney Film Festival, Lucky Miles is a black comedy about three men: Indonesian, Iraqi and Cambodian refugees on an epic journey across the Australia outback, searching for civilization, or at least a bus to Perth… The multiple award winning short doc Nigger Lover, follows Stephen Hagan as he battles local, federal and finally United Nations courts, in order to remove the word from a sign in the country town of Toowoomba, Australia. Bra Boys tells the story of one of the most notorious surf tribes in the world, known for their hard-partying as much as for their surfing skills, Bra Boys wear their loyalty on their skin in the form of tattoos.
Star of the box office hit film Kenny (the hit of Ozflix 2007) and official Australia.com OzFlix patron Shane Jacobson commented, “If you’re looking for a dinki-di taste of what makes Australian flicks ridgey didge, Australia.com OzFlix is fair dinkum.” Kenny director and fellow patron Clayton Jacobson translates, “If you’re looking for some great films from Australia, Australia.com OzFlix is the real deal.”
